Bethesda Gets WET This September

Over-the-top action shooter WET will hit the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on Sept. 15, Bethesda announced today.

The game has players taking on the role of fixer Rubi Malone as she dispatches map after map of bad guys with two pistols and a samurai sword, all while performing acrobatics.

“We’ve worked really hard to make WET different from any other action game available”, said Patrick Fortier, Creative Director at A2M. “When players experience the game’s unique blend of gunplay, sword combat and acrobatics, they won’t want to put the controller down.”

From what I’ve seen of the game, it looks like it could be keeper, but I still haven’t had a chance to go hands on with it, and controls will make or break this title.

Nintendo Slips In Anti-Piracy Measures Into DSi Update

That recent DSi update that brought Facebook to Japanese DSi handhelds also brought something else: software to combat R4-type piracy devices.

Back in November of last year, it seemed as though R4 cartridges would not work in the then new DSi units. However, by May of this year, dedicated DSi piracy devices had hit the streets. Multiple R4-type DSi-dedicated devices began appearing as well, making it possible to load downloaded games on to the DSi.

This latest DSi update seems to have once again nixed piracy devices for the DSi. According to one Japanese site, the update makes it impossible to use the following cartridges: DSTTi, Hyper R4i, ak2i, R4 Ui, R4i Gold, EZ Vi.

Last year, Nintendo and 53 other companies took action against the makers of the R4 cart, a device which allows, among other things, the pirating of games on a DS.

The Great Nintendo Release Schedule, July 2009 Edition

Let’s say you want to know when a Nintendo game is coming out on a Nintendo system. Or when somebody else’s game is coming out on a Nintendo system. You’ll need some kind of release schedule.

Like this one! Here’s a list of all upcoming first and third party games due for a Nintendo system. Nintendo games have release dates (where applicable), third party games do not.

Your mileage on these dates may vary depending on which games you’re most excited about, but it looks like Spirit Tracks in on course for a 2009 release in the West, and interestingly, while Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M are scheduled for 2010 in the US and Europe, in Japan they’re simply “TBA”.
